3 Salmon Recipes Perfect for Winter

While warm weather is still months away for most of us, that doesn’t mean that you can’t start dreaming about your next fishing excursion by whipping up a few tasty salmon recipes at home.

1. Salmon Pasta with Creamy Garlic Sauce

‘Salmon’ and ‘pasta’ are two ingredients that you don’t see put together very often. But once you have a warm, delicious bowl of this first recipe, you’ll definitely throw them together more often.

While it may sound decadent, this recipe for salmon pasta with a creamy garlic sauce is actually pretty simple, and takes just 20 minutes to prepare. 


  • 4 ounces of fettuccine or your favorite pasta noodles
  • ½ pound of fresh salmon, with the skin removed
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of butte
  • ½ cup of dry white wine
  • Juice from ½ a lemon
  • ¾ cup of heavy whipping cream
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • ½ cup of freshly grated parmesan
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Onion powder (to taste)

Start your pasta cooking, and heat the olive oil and butter in a skillet. When it’s hot, add your salmon, and cook for several minutes on each side. Set aside when finished. 

Add the lemon juice, white wine, garlic, and cheese to the pan you used to cook your salmon, incorporating the bits left behind into your sauce. 

Slowly stir in flour to create a sauce, stirring out any lumps. Add the salmon to the sauce and break into bite-sozed pieces. Cook for around 5 minutes, or until the sauce is thick and the salmon is cooked through. 

Stir in the drained pasta and top with parsley and parmesan cheese, then serve hot!

2. Salmon and Scallop Chowder

Another winter-weather staple is this belly-filling salmon and scallop chowder. Filled to the brim with savory salmon, meaty scallops, and hearty potatoes, this soup is the perfect way to warm up after a day on the water, or perhaps the slopes.


  • 1 pound of salmon with the skin removed
  • ½ pound of fresh scallops, seared
  • 1 tablespoon of ghee
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 bulb of fennel, diced
  • 2 tablespoons of fish sauce
  • 2 large white or yellow potatoes, chopped into chunks roughly one inch
  • ¾ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh dill, chopped
  • 6 cups of chicken stock
  • 4 tablespoons of coconut cream
  • 2 green onions, chopped

In a large pot, cook the ghee, onion and garlic until the onions become translucent. Add in fennel, potatoes, salt, and fish sauce, stirring often.

Chop the salmon into chunks and add to pot. Add dill and chicken stock. Cover and let simmer for 15 minutes. 

Add scallops and let simmer for 5 minutes. Add in coconut cream. You can also add a tablespoon of tapioca flour and a tablespoon of water to create a thicker stew.

Spoon into bowls and top with green onion and fennel to serve.

3. Everything Bagel-Crusted Salmon

This surprising, yet tasty recipe is great for whipping up a fast, hot meal all winter long. If you already have everything bagel seasoning, all you’ll need is a nice filet of salmon. If not, check out the ingredient list to create your own seasoning using spices you probably already have in your pantry.


  • 1 pound salmon filet
  • 1 tablespoon of poppy seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of dried minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of dried minced onion
  • ½ tablespoon of course sea salt

Stir your seasonings together, mixing evenly.

Place your salmon filet on a greased baking dish, with the skin side down. Press seasoning mix on top, evenly distributing it. Bake at 375 degrees Farenheit for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on your cut of salmon. Serve hot.
