Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
What if I want to fish but my partner wants to do the wilderness package?
We recommend you both go with the wilderness package. This way your time on the water is completely customizable. For example, fish in the morning, then head to the inlets in the afternoon to look for black bears or dolphins.
Are there any other trip enhancements available?
Yes we have two options you can choose from to add-on to your trip to Sointula Lodge!
High Seas Day
– Want to hit the open water for a day of fishing? Your boat can hit the high seas for a day of targeting bottom fish and salmon off the northern tip of Vancouver Island. This is included in the fishing package at no extra cost.
Great Bear Rainforest Fly Fishing
– Experience some of the best fly-fishing Canada has to offer. Remote untouched watersheds home to feisty wild Sea-run Cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden, and Resident Rainbow trout, make for an unforgettable fishing experience in the Great Bear Rainforest. Target huge Chinook Salmon, hard-fighting Coho Salmon, and acrobatic Pink Salmon on the fly. Whether quick-stripping large clouser patterns through dense kelp patches, or buck tailing herring patterns behind the boat, this proves to be one of the more unique and exhilarating fisheries on coast. A day of fly fishing is included in the fishing package, just let us know if you’re interested and we can chat about what gear to bring.
I would like to bring a large group, can we have the lodge to ourselves?
Absolutely. We love to host groups of any size, but booking out the whole lodge creates an extra special atmosphere for your family reunion or corporate retreat. Please reach out to our team and we can talk about the endless possibilities.
I am looking forward to sharing fish with my family and friends after my fishing trip. What if I don’t catch any fish?
There’s a reason it’s called fishing and not catching. If you’ve purchased our fishing package, don’t worry, we’ll make sure you have high quality locally caught salmon to take home with you. We also encourage catch and release, as salmon conservation is important to us. Letting the big ones go increases the chances of them making it to the river and passing on their genetics for years to come.
Do you have an example trip itinerary?
Yes. Consider these a sneak peak, as the adventures are continually changing and evolving. We also tailor our days to weather and tide. Is there an activity that you’re hoping to focus on during your trip? Let us know.
One of our group members wouldn’t want to go out on the boat at all, how can they be entertained on-shore?
We have many amenities available outside of being on a boat including:
- Hiking
- Kayaking
- Hot Tub/Sauna
- Visiting the Town and Museum
- Paddleboarding
- Meeting the Alpacas
- Many other activities too!
Contact us if one of your members would not like to do the fishing or wilderness tours.
