There are many things that make Sointula Lodge the best BC fishing lodge. The world-class fishing and luxurious accommodations don’t hurt. But it’s the unique touches that help set our Lodge apart from Vancouver Island fishing lodges or others located throughout British Columbia.
Planning your next visit to Sointula Lodge? Keep reading to learn 7 things you might not know that you can do during your trip.
1. Book Out the Entire Lodge
At Sointula Lodge, we welcome just 18 guests during each trip. This ensures that everyone enjoys a private experience! But what if you want something a little more private? For that, we allow groups to book out the entire lodge.
This is perfect for creating an extra special atmosphere for family reunions, corporate retreats, and other special events. In addition to getting the lodge to yourself, you can also customize how you spend each day of your trip.
Not traveling with 17 of your closest friends or family members. We also offer a Private Boat Package for those looking for a more intimate experience. This trip enhancement is designed for smaller groups of 4 or more. If you’re traveling with just one other person, we already do our best to ensure that it’ll be just the two of you on your own boat — with an experienced guide, of course — each day. But for larger groups, we can guarantee just two guests per boat for an additional fee.
2. Attend a Gourmet Picnic on the Beach
After a busy morning of fishing, you’ll be more than ready when lunchtime rolls around. You may have already heard about our almost-famous Burger Boat. But what about our gourmet Beach Picnic?
Tides permitting, on one day of your trip, our chef and staff will roll out a delicious, gourmet picnic, right on a pristine, remote island beach. You’ll dig into locally caught crab and other dishes while enjoying the beautiful views and the sounds of the gentle waves rolling onto the shore.
3. Take a Relaxing Soak in a Hot Tub
Hoping to spend most of your time on the water? During your BC fishing lodge visit, you can certainly do that. But in the evenings, after filling up on some delicious food, you’ll have a variety of other activities to choose from.
One popular option is to soak in our hot tub or spend some time in our traditional Finnish sauna. Don’t forget to pack your swimsuit!
4. Visit With Our Resident Alpacas
Another great way to pass some time while off the water is to visit our resident herd of alpaca. These fluffy, gentle creatures might be the last thing you expect to see while visiting a fishing lodge — and you probably won’t find them at most Vancouver Island fishing lodges! But our friendly animals are a popular attraction among our guests.
5. Take a Wilderness Tour
Whether you have someone in your group who doesn’t want to fish or you want more options to customize how you spend each day, you’ll love our Wilderness Tours. These unique trips are something you won’t find at most BC fishing lodges. They are fully customizable trips that allow guests to mix time spent fishing with a variety of other activities.
Hike on remote islands, go looking for whales and other wildlife and take a dip in a pool beneath a towering waterfall. You can even still plan some time for fishing during your visit. Guests who book our Wilderness Tours still enjoy the same perks and luxurious amenities that come with our standard fishing tours. This includes gourmet meals, beach picnics, use of our hot tub and Finnish Sauna, and more.
6. Enjoy a Four Course Meal
You won’t find any campfire meals or boxed lunches here. At Sointula Lodge, our food is often one thing that surprises — and delights — first-time guests. Breakfasts and lunches are chef-prepared, filling, and delicious meals made with the use of many locally sourced ingredients. Dinners are a more intricate affair. Enjoy decadent four-course meals prepared by our expert chefs.
7. Take Home Some Fresh Caught Fish
Think that just because you’re flying back home after your trip you can’t take home some of the fresh, delicious fish that you catch during your stay? Think again!
Whether you’re traveling by plane or car, you’ll be able to take home some Pacific salmon or other fish you’ve caught. In fact, even if you don’t catch something yourself during your visit, our staff will ensure that you go home with some tasty fish.
After each day on the water, our staff clean and prepare your fish. They place it in cold storage until the end of your visit. At that time, your fish is packed into wax boxes. These will allow your fish to get home safely, where you’ll want to place them in your freezer until you’re ready to prepare them.
