A stay at Sointula Lodge is anything but your typical vacation. Set in one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world, our Lodge has everything you need for an adventure on the water.
But there’s so much more at Sointula than just fishing. Keep reading to learn 7 things you might not know about staying at Sointula Lodge.
1. You’ll Never Find a Crowd on Malcolm Island
Experiencing the tranquil, beautiful landscapes of British Columbia just aren’t the same when you’re sharing them with teeming, noisy crowds. Not that you’ll ever need to worry about that when you’re visiting Sointula Lodge.
That’s because we allow just 18 guests max per visit. Fewer guests mean more personalized attention from our experienced staff. Our tight-knit group ensures that every customer is treated like an old friend from the very moment they arrive.
2. A Rustic Setting Doesn’t Mean Campfire Meals
Staying on a historic farm on a quiet island in the Inside Passage might sound like a rustic backwood experience. But sit down at our dinner table and you’ll find that it’s anything but.
Our chefs serve up delicious, gourmet 4-course dinners, as well tasty, hearty breakfasts and lunches to help keep you energized through long, active days. They strive to promote local food suppliers who practice sustainable procedures, helping you enjoy a true taste of British Columbia.
3. Tides Permitting, You’ll Indulge in a Feast on a Private Beach
While every meal is a treat, guests love our Beach Bistro, a unique and decadent dining experience that’s become a beloved Sointula Lodge tradition. After a morning on the water, you’ll meet up with the chef and service team on a private island beach where they’ll serve up freshly boiled crab, fine wine, and an array of delicacies. You’ll dine in style, surrounded by the incredible scenery of British Columbia, for a meal that you won’t soon forget.
4. Lunch Comes to You
The Beach Bistro isn’t the only unforgettable meal you’ll enjoy during your stay. Our almost-famous Burger Boat is both fun and practical.
When it’s time for lunch, the boat comes straight to you, delivering fresh burgers and bangers on the water so you don’t have to miss even a moment of fishing.
5. You May Want to Pack Your Swimsuit
We don’t recommend taking a dip in the Inside Passage. After all, the water temperature reaches a high of just 51 degrees Fahrenheit, or 10 degrees Celsius. But that doesn’t mean you should leave your swimsuit at home.
After a day on the water, there’s nothing quite like relaxing under the stars. And doing that in our hot tub doesn’t hurt, either. If you want to take a dip, just make sure that a suit is on your packing list. We even have an old-fashioned sauna that you can sweat it out in to get refreshed and ready for another day of excitement.
6. We Help You Take Home Your Catch
With just 4 days to enjoy at Sointula Lodge and so many delicious chef-prepared meals to enjoy, you won’t have time to eat everything you catch. But don’t fret; we’ll help you take it home.
Our staff cut and fillet each of your fish, cutting them into pieces and washing them with fresh water. Then, the cuts are vacuum-packed and frozen. When you’re ready to leave, we load up your fish in a waxed box. Your frozen fish act as the perfect insulators while you drive or fly so that you can enjoy your catch and share with friends and family once you return home.
7. You Don’t Have to Fish at all During Your Stay
If fishing isn’t your thing, don’t worry, because that doesn’t mean that you can’t still enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime visit to Sointula Lodge. Rather than spending your time on the water casting a line, our eco tours will take you sightseeing in the Broughton Archipelago.
Following the same 4-day schedule as our fishing trips, our guides will help you spot native Humpback and Orca whales, Pacific White-Sided Dolphins, porpoises, seals, sea lions, Minke whales, sea otters, and more. You might even spot native land mammals, like a black bear headed to the beach at feeding time.
We’ll keep you at a safe viewing distance so that you can experience wildlife in its natural habitat, and maybe take some incredible photos, too. Plus, you’ll still get to experience the Beach Bistro and Burger Boat, as well as evenings on the dock relaxing in the hot tub or beside a campfire.
