Can’t wait for your 2023 visit to one of the best fishing resorts BC has to offer? Keep reading to learn a few basic fishing tips everyone should know.

Dress Comfortably

Enjoying a memorable day of fishing starts before you ever get on the water. Wearing clothing that is comfortable, breathable, and appropriate for the weather is a must. If your clothing is restrictive, uncomfortable, or not warm enough for the weather, it will be difficult to focus on fishing and having a great time.

Each guest at our fishing lodge is provided with a Columbia insulated rainproof jacket, rain pants, and rain boots to wear while you’re on the water. These are great for keeping rain or splash off of you while you’re on the boat. But under those waterproof layers, you’ll want to wear a few layers that you can add or shed throughout the day as the weather changes.

Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, followed by a few warmer, insulating mid-layers. Top it off with a fleece jacket, wool sweater, or down jacket. Don’t forget a warm pair of socks, too.

Stay Hydrated

As with any other outdoor activity, it’s important to stay hydrated while fishing at Vancouver Island lodges. While you might not notice it at the moment, reeling in a big fish, keeping your balance on a moving boat, and being on your feet all day is still a workout. When the weather is cool or you’re having a great time, it’s easy to forget to drink. Make it a point to stay hydrated during your visit to stay feeling your best.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask Questions

Sointula Lodge is staffed by 12 dedicated staff members. This includes several fishing and wilderness guides who know the best fishing spots, the right gear to use for every fish, and more.

Our guides are there to ensure that every guest has a fun, memorable, and safe experience. Never be afraid to ask them questions! From tips on improving your casting to questions about the wildlife you see, your guide is a wealth of knowledge, and is always happy to help!

Leave No Trace

There’s a reason why Vancouver Island lodges like Sointula Lodge are so popular. They offer visitors from around the world the chance to experience coastal British Columbia’s remote, unspoiled wilderness. Here, you’ll get to see plant and animal life not found anywhere else in the world.

It’s important that every guest at BC fishing lodges do their part to protect that unspoiled wilderness. This includes packing out all trash and following fishing guidelines and limits. Your guides will make sure that you’re releasing any fish that don’t meet the strict requirements, and that you aren’t surpassing any limits. You can do your part by leaving no trace, including carrying out your garbage, avoiding disturbing plant and animal life, and taking only photographs of the natural sights you see.

Brush Up on Your Fishing Terms

Want to take your learning to the next level before you arrive at our BC fishing lodge? Why not brush up on some common fishing terms?

Of course, you don’t need to know what all of these terms mean before you arrive at our Lodge. But if you want to be a step ahead upon your arrival, these fishing terms are a great place to start.
