There’s no shortage of things to do during a visit to our Malcolm Island inn. If you choose one of our Fishing Trip packages, you’ll enjoy daily guided fishing trips in Blackfish Sound, with optional fly fishing trips to the Great Bear Rainforest or a day of fishing on the open water. With our Wilderness Tour packages, you’ll explore the Broughton Archipelago, hiking on remote islands, searching for whales and orcas, and more.
But no matter which package you choose, you’ll also enjoy some downtime at Sointula Lodge. During this time, you can take advantage of some of the Lodge’s special amenities. Keep reading to learn a few of the unexpected amenities that you can take advantage of during your next visit.
A Hot Tub and Finnish Sauna
One of the most popular amenities you’ll enjoy at our Malcolm Island inn is our hot tub and Finnish sauna. After a long day of fishing or exploring beautiful coastal British Columbia, nothing beats relaxing and unwinding in the hot tub. Swap stories about your day, and maybe spin a few fish tales.
Our Finnish sauna is perfect for getting a small taste of the Finnish culture that the island is known for. Saunas have a long tradition of being an integral part of the Finnish lifestyle. Finland is home to around 5.5 million people—and more than 2 million saunas! You won’t find saunas at many British Columbia fishing lodges, but you will at Sointula Lodge!
Kayaks and Paddleboards
You’ll spend plenty of time during your visit to our fishing lodge racing through the water on your way to the next fishing spot or remote island. But you may want to take some time to slow down during your visit, too.
The calm, clear waters that surround Malcolm Island are ideal for paddling. You’ll find kayaks and paddleboards available in case you want to spend some time exploring the waters at a slower pace.
Bicycles
While there is a lot to see on the water, there’s plenty to see on land, too. The Lodge itself is situated on 38 private acres, including a long stretch of waterfront, forest, and a field that’s home to our resident herd of friendly alpacas.
But if you want to explore beyond our property, grab a bike. Hop on two wheels and head the short distance into downtown Sointula. This historic, unique town is home to a few shops and art galleries, as well as restaurants and cafes.
Another great spot to ride to is Bere Point Regional Park. From here, you can hike to the famous whale rubbing beach.
Massages from a Local Masseuse
Looking to mix in a little extra relaxation between your daily adventures at Sointula Lodge? We’ve partnered with a local masseuse to help you slip into vacation mode during your stay. Speak with one of our staff members about adding a massage to your visit for an additional charge.
Patio Lounge With a Firepit
There are plenty of places at our Malcolm Island inn where you can spend some quality time with your friends and family—and maybe a few new friends—during your stay. Each cabin has a private patio with views of the water. This is a great place to take in one of our beautiful sunrises. Each day, you’ll gather with other guests in the Lodge for a cocktail hour before dinner in the waterfront dining room.
But one of the best places to relax and spend time together is in the patio lounge. Outfitted with plush couches around a firepit, this is a popular spot to warm up on a cool evening and catch up on the day’s fun.
Pool Table
If you want to strike up a little friendly competition, we can help with that, too. While it might not be our most popular amenity, the pool table has been known to draw a crowd in the evening after a day of fun on the water.
