What Travel Will Look Like in 2021

Almost a year after COVID-19 began its rapid spread around the world, things are only just beginning to slowly get back to normal. But we still have a long way to go before travel looks as it did pre-pandemic.

With restrictions being lifted and vaccinations rolling out fast, many people are starting to think about planning a summer vacation for 2021. What will travel look like this year? Keep reading to find out.

Masks and Social Distancing are Likely to Continue

Millions of people around the world have already begun receiving doses of vaccinations for COVID-19. Because of the scale of these vaccinations, they will likely continue through the summer, and perhaps even into 2022.

For that reason, and out of an abundance of caution, many restrictions and health measures will still be enforced during the upcoming vacation season.

Masks and social distancing are likely to continue to be required in public places. Capacity restrictions are another health measure that is unlikely to disappear soon.

However, as travel restrictions continue to be lifted, it will likely be possible for many more people to enjoy a vacation this summer than could last year. As long as you’re flexible and willing to follow the rules, you and your family can still enjoy a fun, safe trip in 2021.

Major Tourist Destinations May Still Face Closures

While health and safety measures will continue everywhere, they may be more restrictive in popular tourist destinations.

Theme parks, museums, and other high-traffic destinations may still experience frequent closures. Those that are able to reopen may cap capacity. This will mean having to plan out your visits very far in advance, and possibly adjust your plans if you’re unable to get tickets or reservations.

Live shows, concerts, and other performances will likely continue to be canceled late into 2021. If you had your heart set on seeing a particular performance during your vacation, it may be best to postpone your plans until next year.

Airlines May Continue to Offer Discounts

One positive thing to come out of fewer people traveling in 2021 is that airlines are offering some steep discounts. Even destinations that typically don’t see discounts are seeing reduced prices.

The caveat to many of these great deals is that they are to destinations that are currently closed to tourists, or that require lengthy quarantines. However, most airlines are offering either refunds or allowing travelers to cancel their fares for a future credit. This means that you can take advantage of a discounted rate, and, if you can’t travel when the time comes, get a refund or credit for a future vacation.

Intimate Vacation Destinations Will Continue to be a Smart Option

Maybe you’re looking for a trip that’ll help you get away from the restrictions and closures of COVID-19. Or you’re concerned about staying healthy and safe while traveling. Either way, sticking to a smaller, more intimate vacation destination is a great choice.

Visiting Sointula Lodge means that you won’t have to deal with long lines and social distancing at theme parks or other popular tourist destinations. You’ll have a chance to skip the crowds as well.

Even before the pandemic, our trips were small-scale, with fewer than 18 guests at a time and just 3 to 4 people per boat on our fishing excursions and eco tours.

Checking for Cancellation Policies Will Still be Important

Restrictions are being lifted, and we all have high hopes that by summer, travel will be possible again.

However, it’s still a good idea to make sure that any vacation plans you’re booking have a cancellation policy in place that will allow you to get your money back or move your trip to a later date, if necessary.

At Sointula Lodge, if the Canadian border is closed at the time of your trip, you’ll automatically get a free refund. This makes it easy to book your trip with confidence. We could all use something to look forward to during this difficult time. Booking your trip is a great way to think positive about life getting closer to a new normal, without worrying about losing out on your investment if borders do remain closed.

Planning the Perfect Vacation in 2021

Just like last year, vacations will look a bit different in 2021 than they have in years past. But unlike in 2020, it’s looking as though travel will be possible to some destinations in summer 2021.
